Hackman has at times led the Thriller Writer's life of Been
There; Done That. He is a Ranger qualified Vietnam
Veteran with service in the U.S. Army [508th
Airborne Infantry] in Panama and in Aerial Reconnaissance for Ranger
operations in Vietnam. He was the technical expert on the lead
male
character who was a Ranger in the Vietnam War for Holly Lisle's book
Last Girl Dancing.
In addition to being a qualified Ranger, Airborne, and Jumpmaster,
Emory also taught at the Jungle Warfare School in Panama. He served
in several airborne, jungle infiltration, amphibious landings, and riot control
demonstrations or operations. He's even parachuted onto hard
concrete or extracted others from thorn laden trees in the jungle.
He once saved the life of a man in a fall during a cliff rappelling exercise, and
himself has been down a cliff on a nasty (dark & stormy) rainy night without a
safety rope.
In short, he's been the modern equivalent of his cavalry ancestors in
the Civil War setting for the action-adventure book being written.
Thus the tag line above: Been There; Done that!
Thirty years experience as an active practicing attorney spans the
gamut of litigation of criminal defense, personal injury, divorce, real estate,
debtor and creditor rights, fraudulent
conduct, venture capital and a public offering, and in legal and medical malpractice cases. He
now restricts his legal practice to estate planning, administration, asset
protection, real estate investment, and
related areas. Emory is Chairman of
the McLean Estate Planning Council, founder of the McLean
Business Forum, and in Who's Who in America. When he's relatively
quiet instead of leading the charge, he's a member of the Northern
Virginia Estate Planning Council,
Rock Spring Church, the
Arlington Chamber of
Commerce, the Arlington,
McLean, and
Virginia Bar
Associations.
He lives with his wife, Carol, in Arlington, Virginia, and practices
law in Northern Virginia. Emory is a frequent
speaker for professional groups on estate planning. With Linda, he is a founder of the thriller/suspense
Writer's Group known as Panic, Chaos and Disorder, is a member of
Washington Independent
Writers, and a charter members of
International
Thriller Writers. Emory is the author for our popular
Civil War Guns section. Contact |
